Iran Planning to Kill Secular Iraqi Forces

Yesterday, Pajamas Media published my article about the March 7 national elections in Iraq and how Iran is positioning itself to be “king maker.” A coalition will certainly have to be formed and so Iran is assisting its allies in the Iraqi National Alliance which includes the Sadrists and the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, formerly called the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq. As I outline, Iran is hoping that either al-Maliki or Allawi’s secular, cross-sectarian bloc will align with them to capture control of the government.
Now, the National Council of Resistance of Iran, which is listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department, says that the regime is unleashing the Revolutionary Guards’ Al-Qods Force to kill secular officials and provoke sectarian warfare if their side doesn’t have sufficient power. Members of Iraq’s security forces opposed to Iran’s agenda will be specifically targeted.
The NCRI says that a report given to the Qods Force on March 3 says that Iran’s “Special Groups” in Iraq have conducted 400 operations in the past month and the head of the assassination teams in Baghdad reports:
“Our organization has performed over 50 assassinations just during the past 4 days in regions including New-Baghdad, Sadr City, Al-Shaab, Qanat al-Jaish, Karrada and other areas in Baghdad. Targets have been security and military chiefs and officers, a judge in Rassafa and another judge who was involved in great crimes.” He adds, “This organization has assassinated 10 to 12 persons daily on the average.”
NCRI’s report says that the cells have received a fatwa from the Qods Forces saying to target those connected to Iyad Allawi, a pro-American secular Shiite, and Saleh al-Mutlaq, a prominent Sunni allied to Allawi. The cells consist of 4-5 people and each commander supervises 20 teams.
The group’s website also reports that a senior European Union official that leads relations with Iraq confirms receiving many reports of fraud (early voting began yesterday) in support of the pro-Iranian bloc and Iranian currency is being found to bribe voters. He also confirmed reports of threats and assassinations of supporters of Allawi’s bloc.
We should consider the source for the first report, but to be fair, we must keep in mind that NCRI has been removed from the European Union’s list of terrorist groups after a lengthy court battle.
